Hideki Matsui Topps Sterling Jumbo Swatch
January 8th, 2008 by AlexCheck out this beautiful jumbo swatch patch auto of Hideki Matsui. Its probably one of the nicest Yankees patches I have ever seen.
Unfortunately, when you find patches this nice on eBay your first thought is always that the patch is fake.
I am almost 100% sure this patch is authentic.
Here’s Why:
Some other Matsui Jumbo Swatches have pieces of the same patch:
The interesting thing is, the Yankees have no such patch on their regular uniforms.

Apparently the patch is from the 2003 season and it commemorates the team’s 100th Anniversary. It was worn during home games on the left sleeve and also on the caps.

Here’s the full patch:

2003 was Hideki Matsui’s rookie year so the patches are from his rookie jersey, which I thought was interesting.
The cards I’ve shown are the Jumbo Swatches #’d 1,2, and 4 out of 10. I assume the 3/10 Jumbo also has a piece of the patch but it hasn’t turned up on eBay yet. Let me know if you spot it, or other interesting Jumbo Swatch patches from 2007 Topps Sterling.

I think it is authentic, but I do not think it comes from the same patch as the others. Comparing all the cards and the patch you show, the hat on the swatch is way too big, Looks like it about double the size it would be if it were from that patch.

Hmm you might have a point there…. However it might just be the scaling of the other pictures. The second one isn’t a straight on shot. Good point though. if the 3/10 and 5/10 appear on eBay maybe we can get a better idea.
