Ok, by popular demand here is part 2 of my 2007 Topps Sterling Analysis. In this part of the analysis I will list out the chances of getting specific cards when opening a box of a given player. Warning: This is the longest post in the history of the internet. Just zero in on what you want, or if you have some time to kill, read the whole thing!

Again, this is based on information found in the Topps Sterling Sell Sheet and the Topps Sterling Checklist, provided by Topps. My numbers are only as accurate as the underlying numbers from Topps. All numbers DO NOT take into account the cards that have already been pulled.

Finally, links to active auctions for player specific boxes on ebay are provided, if you want to test your luck. If not, feel free to ignore them.

Remember, the percentages shown are for boxes where the player has been revealed, not sealed brand new boxes.

Old Logo:

New Logo:

I think the new one is ugly… Apparently changing your logo is supposed to imply some sort of modernization, like new and exciting things are happening. I like the classic logos myself, the one’s that I grew up seeing. Well the changes are subtle, so I guess its not that big of a deal. Read about the logo change at Beckett.

The Barry Halper Collection of Baseball Memorabilia

This is a catalog from a Sotheby’s auction held in 1999. Amazingly, all the items up for sale were owned by a single collector, Barry Halper, who acquired much of his collection directly from the athletes or their families. How else would someone get Ty Cobb’s dentures? (they sold for $7,475) This three-volume set has over 2,000 pictures, descriptions of the items, and estimated auction prices. There’s some really amazing stuff in here and I’ve only begun to go through it.
